Abstract:
Investigations regarding the alternative energy strategies have been recognized as particularly important for sustainable development. The production of biogas from alternative resources is a field of growing interest since fossil-fuel reserves decline. The aim of this study is to promote the use of anaerobic digestion process for treating organic fraction of municipal solid waste. The technology of anaerobic digestion is not so widespread in Serbia, although there are both needs for clean energy and strategic orientation of the government to support development of renewable energy technologies. Production of biogas by anaerobic digestion allows decentralized supply of heat and electricity, and thus meets the needs of local consumers. This paper presents an application of anaerobic digestion for treatment of municipal solid waste. The main objective of this investigation is presents a possibility for use of anaerobic digestion for treatment of organic fraction of municipal solid waste.
