Digital Documentation Management of Cultural Heritage

Abstract

In this chapter, the focus will be on applications of metadata in the process of cultural heritage documentation management with an aim to ensure its preservation, presentation, and availability over a longer time period. We describe a procedure for the establishment of a single metadata scheme on the level of national cultural institutions, which would be interoperable and compatible with broadly accepted international schemes and standards. The proposal takes into consideration official guidelines and recommendations on digitization of cultural heritage in the Republic of Serbia and makes a step towards the establishment of a national information system for management and preservation of data on cultural property.
