dc.description.abstractIn this paper linearization of the optimal compression function is done and hierarchical coding is applied, achieving a simple and fast process of encoding and decoding. Four methods for optimization of the last segment are proposed, which improves performances and obtained SQNR (signal-to-quantization noise ratio) is close to that of the nonlinear optimal compression function.en_US
