This paper discusses the design of the new scalar compandor model using spline functions of the first and the second degree. The spline functions are used for the approximation of the optimal compressor function. Based on approximative spline functions, for the Gaussian source at the input of the quantizer, designing of the scalar compandor model is done. The signal to quantization noise ratio value which is achieved by compandor, designed in this way, is very close to the signal to quantization noise ratio value of the optimal compandor, where the design complexity of the proposed model is significantly smaller.en
