Abstract: 
In contemporary scientific and professional literature, there is an evident increase in interest in the concept of knowledge management and its implementation to problems in various areas of human work and action. Given that knowledge is seen as the most important economic resource of the modern era, on the road to ''knowledge society'', learning issues in the business environment and application of the concept of knowledge management, as a strategy for the development of innovation and improvement of organizational performances, in particular, health and safety performances in workplace, have been actualized. In this regard, the paper elaborated conceptual definitions, need, importance and objectives of knowledge management with special emphasis on the knowledge management challenges and opportunities in the field of occupational safety.
